Hi Colleagues!
My name is Kathy, and I have been a registered nurse for 38 years! I completed my academic degrees at the University of Kansas, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Health Services Administration, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice. I am a certified wound, ostomy, and continence nurse, as well as a family nurse practitioner (18 years). I started my nursing career in the Greater Kansas City area as a staff nurse on a medical-surgical/orthopedic unit and served in other staff nurse roles, including in the intensive care unit; and I’ve worked as an FNP in my wound care specialty. I have over 29 years of inpatient and outpatient clinical, managerial, and program development experience in the specialty of wound care [both adult and pediatric], having been involved in the implementation of new wound care programs locally and nationwide. In addition, I have previous clinical adjunct teaching and hospital nurse educator experience and held the position of the inaugural Director of Nursing for over 7 years at Ottawa University, a private university with campus locations in Kansas, Arizona, and Wisconsin. I married my high-school sweetheart, and have five adult-aged children with four grandsons (and a granddaughter on the way!). And I love dogs, cats, and really all animals (I’m a huge outdoor lover)!
